The technology that is out there for teachers now is leaps and bounds ahead of what they had in my day. (I am only 20, so it’s not even noon in my day.) My generations’ Smart board was an overhead projector, and it’s a shame that some teachers today are using their Smart boards as very fancy and expensive projectors. Which begs the question, how useful is technology to students if their teachers don’t know how to use it?
Technology that teachers do seem to know how to use is blogging. I think that this jazzes up the classic personal reflection and opens up students’ ideas to not only their peers but also the world. Blogging is great for connecting students here in Canada to students around the world. Students can read the perspectives of people living in the countries that they are learning about and read their opinions on the current events happening in the world today.
“If you build it, will they come?” We know the answer if you build a baseball field, but is it the same for a blog? Before starting my Education journey I didn’t think that anyone would care about reading my thoughts on the world but, as I start to build an on-line presence, I am starting to see that there is value to putting your voice and ideas out there for the world to see and comment on.
